HOW TO AUDITION FOR DRAMA SCHOOL
Every year the vast majority of the thousands of applicants for drama school will be unsuccessful. Often the ones who make it are no more talented than the ones who don't. What can make the difference?
Purely and simply - CONFIDENCE
In collaboration with international voice coach and director Alan Woodhouse, Patrick offers a group workshop designed to give you that edge that only supreme confidence can offer.
In our superb theatre space, over a full day, you will taken through the areas most candidates find most daunting. Drama course auditions involve more than doing speeches. In this intense workshop you will get to work in a group dynamic, including improvisation, so that you won't freeze or be fazed on the big day.
You will also get expert direction on that other cause of anxiety - the Shakespeare speech! Many candidates can't enjoy ANY part of the whole audition process because of this anxiety - there general confidence was low when it needed to be at its highest. Patrick and Alan will demystify Shakespeare, get rid of the jargon and get you understanding, performing and enjoying speaking the words, leaving you confident enough to focus on all other elements of the audition.
First classes on the 11th, 12th, 18th of February and 18th, 19th, 27th of March
WHY DO THIS WORKSHOP?
Many candidates take one-to-one private classes with industry professionals to improve their chances. So what are the advantages of attending a group workshop?
----- You will get to practice in a group dynamic.
----- As well as working on your own speech, you get to see other actors getting their work analysed, often more as you can observe and take in the feedback without the nerves of performance.
----- You get to practice your speech with other actors on a proper stage in an impressive auditorium.
----- You get the opportunity to have a mock interview so that you will be prepared for the type of questions you may be asked, a vital part of the whole process.
----- You get to work with two coaches instead of the usual one, and get over 6 hours of expert help for the cost a couple of hours of private coaching.
Patrick's collaborator in these workshops, Alan Woodhouse, has coached at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Central School of Speech & Drama, L.A.M.D.A., Webber Douglas Academy, Arts Educational Schools, and Rose Bruford College. He has also worked internationally as a teacher and director, and has been voice coach at The Royal National Theatre, Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, and Glyndebourne Opera (www.woodhouse-voice.co.uk)
We advise booking early, as Patrick and Alan keep the numbers on each course down to 10 maximise the time we can spend on each candidate and keep the work extremely focused.
